Harry, “the light of Hope, Love & Success”

Created by Haran 12 years ago
It’s a great honour and privilege to reflect on the life of our dear Harry and share some pleasant memories. I wish to quote from “Ralph Waldo Emerson” on “Success” in Life - which I feel is a ‘tailor made fit’ to Harry, my loving brother. To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one's self; to leave the world a little better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived - this is to have succeeded. With a humble beginning in life back home in Sri Lanka and to depart this planet as “the Harry” we all know today is marvellous in every respect. Harry was born on 29th August 1964 in Colombo, Sri Lanka and was the eldest child of late Mr.Kanagasundaram and Mrs.Thirumagal. He has a loving sister Jayanthi and an adored brother Jayaharan to carry his torch from where he leaves today. Harry’s initial life was at Kankesanthurai where he lived with his family and studied at Nadeswara College and then at Jaffna Hindu College. The family moved to Colombo in late 1980’s where his father has already established himself as one of the leading lecturers in Accountancy. Harry also took up to Accountancy first, but his focus had always been to become an enterprising entrepreneur in his own right. This we all vouch today at Liverpool - some 8000 miles away from where he started his life. This itself is an inspiration to all of us - where there is a “Will”, there is always a “Way”. Harry proved it in no uncertain terms. His chosen mentor in his young age was his uncle, late Mr.Thirunavukkarasu who was a popular and well known businessman in Sri Lanka. Many positive qualities in Harry like his perseverance, dedication, humility, compassion, trustworthiness, loyalty, service, kindness and humour etc.. , all of which took him to the heights he achieved in life and continued to fuel his drive to success at all times. Harry always appreciated beauty and had very good tastes in life. He was an ardent animal lover and had many pets ranging from pedigree dogs, love birds and assorted kinds of fish during his early days. His handsome face with loving smiles won many friends and brought all close to him. Harry’s business acumen showed the necessary “sparks” from the very early stage in his life. One such memory that comes to my mind is once Harry’s mother (my peri-yamma) left him with few rupees as pocket money when she went on a holiday. Within a few months Harry multiplied that sum of money into few hundreds with live-stock of poultry too, which he started with his pocket money. He always won many hearts and his past employers too were no exception. In 1994 his employer, a tourist hotel in Sri Lanka obliged his request to travel to England on business. Here, he realised his potential and saw the opportunities to realise his dreams in life. His employer happily agreed and allowed Harry to embark on his own ventures and his drive started towards his own destiny and goals, he set for himself in life from then onwards. Few months ago, Harry requested me to co-ordinate an extended family gathering where he wanted every single family member to be present and to spend a few days together. Before this came into fruition, God has called him in a hurry as He may be having some other important mission I suppose, for our dearest Harry. Harry has always been a loving son to his mother, an affectionate father to his children, a caring husband and a dear brother to all. Harry was a caring person to all of us, who will be always remembered for his fun loving nature. He was a person of great compassion and his devotion to his work is of no comparison. Above all, Harry believed in himself. He always said “Live and Die like a king” Those are the words of wisdom that I will always cherish. “Harry….. We are very fortunate to have had you among us and you will live forever in our memories” Your Loving brother Thiru Thirukkumaran.
